Spring time in Iowa is when many insects become active again and start entering your home. Common household insects this time of year are "small black ants" or Odorous House Ants (Tapinoma sessile). Odorous house ants are small in size and are brown to black in color. They are commonly found around areas of moisture--sinks, bathtubs, or moisture-damaged areas around the house. Colonies are usually outside of your home so the ants you see inside are worker ants that are forging for food to take back to the colony.
When managing an ant issue, the goal is total colony elimination. The products used are time released and slower acting so the worker ants will help spread the product to others within the colony. We recommend waiting 14 days to see if there is a reduction in ant numbers. If not, give us a call and your technician will come back out for a retreat.
